LOCAL HERITAGE
The inhabitants of Valmeinier (known as 'Valmineux' and 'Valmineuses') remain proud of their history, their traditions and their environment. Each meeting is an invitation to discover every place of interest: from the local gastronomy (tartiflette, croziflette, blueberry tart, cheese...), buildings of historical interest (the church, chapels, the old mill,...), from craftsmen to it's nature and wildlife.
Free guided tours of the church are provided by the voluntary workers for the association for the protection and promotion of Valmeinier's heritage and to share many local anecdotes with the tourists.
Focus:
Mont Thabor Farm: Marie and Cyril are a young, energetic couple who are happy to share with you their love of animals. You are warmly invited to discover their goats and kids, Yacks and rabbits in a traditional setting, aswell as following the transformation of goats milk to an assortment of cheeses. Fun for all the family!
Les Sens du Bois: nestled in the 'Mélèzes' hamlet you will find Christelle and Sébastien's workshop where wood is crafted using traditional methods. With their talent and craftsmenship (woodturning) they create decorative and useful objects of outstanding quality.
