Franck, your ULM pilot

Alban Pernet – Valmeinier Tourist Office

Passionate about skiing since always, Franck, originally from Sarthe, worked as a sailing instructor, skiman, boom operator, first aid tracker. In 1984, he obtained his ULM pilot's license. Wanting to combine the pleasure of sliding and flying, he was the first to put skis under the ULM.

In 1988, he set up his base in Valmeinier, at an altitude of 2200 meters. Well received and finding a human dimension there, he decided to settle there every winter.

He works with Nathalie, his wife, also patented. She is his essential partner both in terms of flight and reception. A big smile and tea are always waiting for you at the base! This passion is family, because their two sons are also pilots.

He sometimes happens to work with the trackers for surveillance missions or to allow them to intervene more quickly on a rescue or on an avalanche. This recognized specialist in the practice of ULM with his 20 hours of flight trains the pilots and instructors of Air Création, a French manufacturer and world leader, all over the world.

For 16 years, "Francky" has put his skills to the benefit of a team of scientists from the CNRS and the CEA, in order to take measurements of pollution in the Alpine valleys, on oil platforms, or of CO2 in the forest. Proud to participate in these internationally recognized missions, he thus contributes at his level, to the improvement of climate studies.

Every day, weather permitting, he never tires of sharing his “3D glide” at 4000 meters with holidaymakers. He is always happy to be able to take them to discover the magnificent landscape offered by the Thabor massif!
