In Winter

Since November 2021 and the Mountain II law, it is mandatory to have special equipment in winter to circulate in a certain number of French departments, including the Savoy is part.
All vehicles (except those equipped with studded tires) must be equipped with:
– either a pair of chains or snow socks for at least two driving wheels
– either four winter tires (snow tyres) or all-season tyres.
This equipment is required on the all roads in Savoie and Haute-Savoie from November 1 to March 31, including for motorists in transit.

Furthermore, make sure there is no snow or ice on your roof when you leave. On the road, this constitutes an offense and can expose you to a fine.

Traffic tips

Before leaving:
1 / Check the good condition of your vehicle, the weather conditions, the traffic forecasts on Bison Fute et Savoy Road.

2 / Equip yourself: winter tires, chains (practice fitting them on your vehicle) and leave them close at hand. Beware of the new regulations from November 1, 2021. Use the chaining areas specially equipped on your route to install them on your vehicle, do not stop on the road!
